Customize your persona template based on your requirements.

Classic and blank template

First, go to personas and click "create new". A field will pop up where you can choose between creating a persona with our predefined template, the "Smaply Classic Persona", or you can choose "blank template" in order to have an empty persona that you can customize. If you choose to start with our "Smaply Classic Persona" template, you can change all of the labels and move things around if they don't exactly fit your needs.

Adding elements

You can choose which fields fit best to make your persona more relatable for your team and stakeholders. There are several options that can be used: long text, short text, image, number or image gallery.

You can view the different field options by clicking "add element" in the upper right corner of the editor. Options include:

  • short text (e.g., for quotes, demographics ...)
  • long text (e.g., for descriptions, expectations, ...)
  • number (e.g., for age, KPIs ...)
  • image (e.g., for profile pictures, screenshots ...)
  • image gallery (e.g., for screenshots, mood images, ...)
  • slider (e.g., for showing expertise level, comparing how easy or hard something, ...)

You can drag and drop the elements you would like to use into your template. Also, you can rename the fields.

The next step is to fill in all the details you think are necessary. If a certain element isn't needed, you can delete the field by clicking on the 3 dots in the upper right corner and choose "delete element".

Custom persona icons and colors

You can use Smaply's noun project integration to create custom icons for your personas. Click on the icon on the persona template to choose your icons from Smaply's classic and serious icons gallery, or search for custom icons.

The color you set for your icon is the color that will also be used on journey maps to color the emotional journey and the dramatic arc.

Tips on how to create and use personas

In this webinar about personas, our co-founder and CEO Marc gives an overview on the topic – how they differ from market segments and other constructs, how to create and update them, and how to successfully embed them in organizations.
